New Horizons’ Last Portrait of Pluto’s Puzzling SpotsVia NASA (h-t HuffPost Science)There is something mystical in this capture. The spots appear on the side of Pluto that always faces its largest moon, Charon—the face that will be invisible to New Horizons when the spacecraft makes its close flyby the morning of July 14. New Horizons principal investigator Alan Stern of the Southwest Research Institute, Boulder, Colorado, describes this image as “the last, best look that anyone will have of Pluto’s far side for decades to come.”Image caption: New Horizons’ last look at Pluto’s Charon-facing hemisphere reveals intriguing geologic details that are of...
Sundays With Tabs the Cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog Mascot, Vol. 491
As you know, Tabs has 12 Oscars — more than any other cat actor — and before he left Novato this weekend to attend the 90th Academy Awards in Los Angeles (he’s nominated in the Best Supporting Cat Actor category for his riveting portrayal of a brainwashed former kitty supermodel in Get Out), he texted me a few reminder highlight pics from past years, like the time he photobombed Bradley Cooper… While Tabs is out of town, I’m organizing his trophy case, which is more of a trophy room, because he’s quite confident that he’s going to win his 13th...
Liquid Lipstick Love
I’m tempting fate whenever I wear lipstick with white clothes, but I like to live on the edge, mwahahahaha! I’ve been all about the Chanel Rouge Allure Ink liquid lipsticks ($38 each), man. They came out a few years back, and they’re still a fixture in the permanent collection. Thank goodness for that, too, because there’s really nothing else quite like them. They’re like a shy first kiss…and you can crack as many cheesy smiles with them as you want, because the creamy, pigmented formula stays smooth for hours. PRODUCT A long-lasting liquid lipstick with a smooth texture that glides...

The Two Big BangsWhen scientists say “the Big Bang” they mean two possible things. But only one of them is still correct. When cosmologists — that’s the sub-field of astrophysics dealing with the origin and evolution of the Universe — speak about the Big Bang, they mean one of two things:The hot, dense, expanding state that our observable Universe emerged from, that expanded, slowed, cooled, and gave rise to elements, atoms, stars, molecules, planets, and eventually us.The initial singularity that represents the birth of space and time. The only problem is, while these two explanations were interchangeable back in say, the 1960s, they no longer are.Image credit:...

Ah… What a smartass Descartes! He knows what he’s up. Descartes couldn’t know Hume thoughts (or his ’dickness level’ for that matter, because Hume born 60 year after Descartes death). So surely he’s doubting between this response (D) and answer C (which is related to his own statement, Cogito ergo sum, so he should be -almost- sure about it). On the other hand he did positively know that A and B may not be answers 100% certain (in agreement with his cosmovision), so the 50% wildcard should clear up a bit the dilemma, isn’t it?. I accept suggestions. ;-)Via Facebook...
